PREVIEW: Lug Ole Gander (LOG) – Platforming North Yorkshire Electronica this Summer

Lug Ole Gander (LOG) is a live electronic music series coming to North Yorkshire on 7th June and 19th July, 2025. LOG has been programmed and developed by four upcoming event producers with tickets now available on Eventbrite

From creative workshops to live performances, LOG provides music experiences for those living in rural areas where access to equipment and events is limited. In rural North Yorkshire, only 10% of young people spoken to by LOG had attended a concert. Through live performances and creative workshops, LOG is creating a music festival that aims to change that statistic.

Behind the events are four young producers, collaborating as part of a developmental programme created by AMP Music. Since 2001, AMP has provided creative opportunities and experiences for those living in rural North Yorkshire.

Speaking on Lug Ole Gander, AMP director Sarah McWatt states:

“We are hugely looking forward to the two Lug Ole Gander events that our AMP Producers are developing. It is important to us that developing producers get an opportunity to test ideas and approaches, with mentoring and support given along the way.

“As a predominantly rural county, connecting people in North Yorkshire really resonates with us. We know these events can be catalysts for friendships and artistic links that last well beyond the programme.”

“Alumni from previous years have progressed into really exciting careers, and we can’t wait to see what this year’s team produce and do next.”

June 7th: LOG launches its debut event at Young Thugs Recording Studio. A 10-minute walk from York Railway Station, Young Thugs have been a major player in York’s modern creative economy: hosting gigs, music videos, and recording sessions.

For those familiar with York’s live music scene, headliner Ola Szmidt will be a familiar name. For those unfamiliar: her hypnotic brand of electronica, defined by ethereal vocal loops and glitching manipulations, form atmospheres like no other.

Sharing the stage with Szmidt is Huddersfield’s Jo Christman, an upcoming artist whose brand of electronica is on the noisier side and seeks to provide a fascinating contrast.

July 19th: LOG 2 will take place at the Rural Arts Centre in Thirsk. A 25-minute walk from Thirsk Train Station, Rural Arts was identified early on as a perfect host for LOG’s social initiative.

With support from Debbie Armour (of Burd Ellen) and a headline performance from Dirty Freud, both acts are sure to rock the North Yorkshire town through their radically different styles.

Spanning all-day schedules, both events will begin with a creative workshop conducted by Ola Szmidt (June 7) & Debbie Armour (July 19), respectively.
